Chris Jericho – Undisputed

Author: Claire | Filed under: News, Reviews, WWE

Yes, I was so excited to get this book, follow up to the New York Times bestseller ‘A Lions Tale’, I tweeted a picture to Mr @iamjericho himself. GEEK!
A Lions Tale took us through the journey of Chris Irvines life up to the point where he stepped out into the WWE Universe for the first time ever. Undisputed picks up from that point and brings us further into a touching and hilarious tale of life within the WWE, Rock Star tales, births and deaths.

The reason that I love Chris Jericho is his complete honesty and his ability to blend in with you and I. He makes mistakes and often has mishaps that will have you laughing out loud. My favourite stories include being told off by Sharon Osbourne (one can only sympathise with getting a mouthful off her!), life on the road with Fozzy (no pooping on the bus), a lesson learnt by drinking and driving and the backstage politics of the WWE (note to self, never work with Chyna). My new favourite phrases are ‘Anal Cunt’ and ‘froot’, needless to say, this book is super Froot.

Our House guests The Jokers supported Fozzy on a UK tour and it was fantastic to see guitarist Paul Hurst get a mention as he took Jericho on a Beatles tour of Liverpool followed up by a meeting with an ‘ex’ member of the Beatles Jonny Hutch who promptly passes on the message to give to Sir Paul McCartney should Chris ever cross paths ‘Tell im hes a fookin wanker’ – Nice. Below is a picture, Paul is the one at the front with long blonde hair next to your glamourous hostess Claire ;-)

I genuinely had a lump in my throat as I read of Jerichos struggle with his mothers decline in health, resulting in her passing. Another poignant story is of course the world famous one of Chris Benoit. We all read the stories and saw the news reports of this monster who murdered his wife and child then took his own life. Jericho explains Benoits personality very well and gives him some humanity and compassion that many people were quick to turn their back on. Jericho defends the wresting community well in this chapter, Vince will be proud.

This book was difficult to put down, so much so that I had it read in a couple of days and a sadness that left me wanting more! C’mon Chris, I hope your working on book number 3, don’t leave us waiting too long!

One Response to “Chris Jericho – Undisputed”

  1. Yes, it was a brilliantly told story of the life following up from ‘A Lion’s Tale’, of Chris when he first came into the WWE after working hard, 9 years to get there. There was some really funny & moving points, I was literally teary when Chris went through the heartbreaking death of his mother & deaths of his two best friends Eddie Guerrero & Chris Benoit. The book also sheds light on Benoit as a person, he wasn’t himself during the last days of his life, & is really a loving person, not a crazed physchopath we all came to believe. There are many things to say about Chris ‘Jericho’ Irvine’s new book, but the one word I call is phenomenal. Fantastic writing skills from Chris also as he has developed into an outstanding author.
A truly magnificent rock ‘n’ rollercoaster ride, where u wouldn’t want to put it down once u started reading it!
    Wonderful job Chris! :)
